Safety Training:

Hobby/Recreational Flying

Flying your unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is exciting and fun. Having fun means flying safely! Hobby or recreational flying doesn't require FAA approval but you must follow safety guidelines. Any other use requires FAA authorization.  (FAA UAS)

Introduction to Unmanned Aircraft Systems "UAS FLYER":

This course will cover the basics of unmanned aircraft vehicle (UAV) flight, UAS flight safety, and FAA rules and regulations for the everyday hobbyist pilot. Attendees will receive instruction and active flight training during the course. Designed for new and current UAS hobbyist pilots, attendees will learn from actual pilots and experienced instructors on how to safely pilot their UAS. All experience levels are welcome. Attendees 12 and younger must have a parent or guardian attend with them.

Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of UAV flight
  • Adhere to FAA rules and regulations pertinent to hobby UASs
  • Apply safety practices during flight of recreation/hobby UASs

Flight instruction will take place in the Rescue Training Public Safety Training Center at 9 Mall Terrace, Savannah 31406. 

This three hour workshop includes:

  • Introduction to the small unmanned aerial vehicle (sUAV)
  • Registration / Legal Flying
  • Set-Up Ready for first flight
  • Simulator practice
  • Hands-on flying (classroom)
  • Opportunity to network and meet with other UAS enthusiasts, flyers, and operators.
