UAS Public Safety Operations
Training for the Advanced Operator
 

UAS usage gives the emergency services teams incredible situational awareness. Police officers, fire fighters, and SWAT teams across the country are using drones for search and rescue, crime scene investigation, accident investigation, criminal pursuit, forest fire tracking, damage assessment, and Haz-Mat operations. Drones are not just toys or flying cameras. Drones are saving lives.

RTI offers UAS training and certification for the professional first responder team that would like to legally employ the use of UAVs into their operational plans.

Course Topics

The goal is to provide the Public Safety Operator with a comprehensive understanding of the UAS industry. Some of the training topics include:

Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of the Public Safety use of the sUAV
  • Adhere to FAA rules and regulations pertinent to Commercial  and Public Safety Use of modern UASs
  • Apply safety practices during flight of Missions and Special Operations.

Flight instruction will take place at the Rescue Training Public Safety Training Center at 9 Mall Terrace, Savannah 31406. 

This 16-hour workshop includes:

  • One day of introduction to the commercial and public safety use of small unmanned aerial vehicles (sUAV)
  • One Day of practice on simulator and hands-on flying (outdoors) Bring your UAV if you already have one.
  • Including several PS developed hands-on scenario achievements and testing
  • UAS Public Safety Operator certification card
  • Opportunity to network and meet with other UAS enthusiasts, flyers, and operators.

The Certificate of Authorization

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) all public entities will be required to apply for a Certificate of Authorization in order to legally fly drones. Rescue Training offers consultation and assistance through this process.
